Bathroom painting complete

Standard

I promised y’all photos of the bathroom after my painting project was complete. I painted the shelves a bright coral and the wall with the door and the one with the cabinets a very light blue. It really brightened up and livened up the tiny little bathroom we have.

As I said before the bathroom isn’t complete yet. Chris purchased a pedestal sink from the Habitat for Humanity store in Albany and I plan on redoing the floors whether it be laying down some new flooring that I can get from the restore for really cheap or painting the nasty lenolioum floors we have in there now. I know putting in the new front door is at the top of his priority list for projects before we do anything more with the bathroom. We also need to hopefully find a new shower wall insert before we go back to working on the bathroom.

I feel like today was a pretty good day! I’m hurting really bad now but Jill came over and helped me and we got some things done. She finished cleaning the kitchen, and we folded 3 loads of laundry and washed some bedding. I picked things up and organized them and I cleaned off the table by my chair that Chris made. It is a beautiful table! (He made it for his Grandmother years ago and when she past away he inherited it back from her. It has so much meaning to him and every time I look at it I think of her! She was such an amazing woman, so full of life and love!)

I finished putting the shelves in and put the bathroom back together…as you can see in the photos, (you know the ones I forgot to attach to my last post, lol.) I’m thinking about painting the big mirror frame in there the same bright coral as the shelves. What do y’all think about that? Please I’d love your input on whether I should paint it or not.

My next upcoming projects are going to be: painting a mirror frame for my bestie Jillybean in a brighter coral color for her dining room; making a chandelier out of a crib spring board; and continuing to work on my craft room. I will post pics and tutorials as I go along.

I forgot to mention earlier that we didn’t end up going to comi-con last week for my birthday. We are saving money right now for my hubby and our son to go on an all guys Alaksan fishing trip this summer with some friends of ours who just purchased a 48′ fishing boat. They will be staying on the boat for just over a week and are so excited to go, so we decided to put it off until a later comi-con. We also slowed down on working on our costumes since we aren’t in a rush now to get them done. That is another project to add to my list… I will attach a pic of the costume I am making for myself, it is a really great costume and I’m trying to stay as close to this costume as possible. I will post pics as I go along.

Thank you all for your love & support! I look forward to hearing your feedback. Until next time…stay positive & be well. Take care y’all.

Decluttering Post # 2

Standard

Well it’s been a while since I have written anything. I’m still working on decluttering our home and it seems to be a never ending process. I have to move things around to sort through them and I feel like I’m moving clutter from one area of the house to another making it look messier than it was to begin with then I have to put it all back together again… Pulling things out and sorting through them to rid clutter isn’t too bad it’s putting it back together again after I have already worn myself out. Even though I have been getting rid of things like crazy I still have a long way to go.

Jill came over for a couple days and we knocked out the craft room/boys room and they can actually get to their beds now. I still have to get in there and do a lot of sorting, organizing and maybe even purging some of my craft items (arg…tears in my eyes lol). I was able to get in there so that I could get some crafting done. I made 50 baby shower invitations for a friend of mine as her baby shower gift and I made a baby blanket as well. It felt so good to have a crafting area again that was at least cleaned out so that I could work in it. I will add some really embarrassing photos to show you how bad it was before.

Our youngest son Corbyn motivated me to paint the bathroom shelves that my husband built while I was in Miami. I decided I was going to use paint we already had and not spend any money on it and I really wanted to brighten the room up. I have a gallon of this beautiful bright coral color and decided to risk being bold and just go for it. They turned out great and really added some extra color and personal touch to the bathroom. Then we decided the two walls (the one with the shelves and sink and the other wall with the door needed to be repainted). We had just enough of the blue we used in the kitchen to cover the small space I was painting. Its a really light blue and almost looks white it’s so light so it was a great match to go with the coral I used on the shelves. The other walls in the bathroom are already painted a nice grey blue color. Chris purchased a pedestal sink from the Habitat for Humanity store in Albany that he will install when he gets a chance to do it. He is going to install the new front door first before worrying about the bathroom sink. I can’t wait for either of those projects to be complete, I’m really excited for our house as it’s all coming together beautifully!

I have to start putting the shelves back into the cabinets so that I can organize the bathroom nicely. I think when Chris puts in the new sink I’m going paint over the hideous lenolioum flooring in the bathroom with the same color light blue as the walls. I have some flooring paint left over in that color from painting our kitchen floors with it a couple years back.

After I’m done purging I’m hoping to paint one of the walls in the living room a lighter color. Before Chris and I got married I painted both the boys bedrooms and living room but I painted the entire living room in a mocha color and now it’s too dark in there and I would like to brighten it up.

There are so many projects I want to get done right now but I definitely need to complete the ones I’ve started before beginning anything new. I have a project I’m really excited about…. My friend Angie got me a baby crib spring board and I’m going to make a hanging chandelier out of it. When I do I will make up a tutorial for y’all. My hubby doesn’t show the same enthusiasm as I do for it but I don’t think he can picture the completed project…all he pictures is work, lol.

What projects have you been working on lately? Anything that you’re excited enough about to share with us? Please do share! Thank you all for your love and support! I look forward to hearing from you and hope that you all have a great day! Uuntil next time take care and keep smiling, life is wonderful and we get the privledge of waking up each morning to enjoy another beautiful day!

Thank you so much for following my blog and supporting me in my journey of crafting, decluttering, enjoying the outdoors and time with my family. You guys are great!

It’s That Time of Year~Purging Time

Standard

Well as you all know my large family lives in a very small home and (my two boys that do not spend a lot of time here) there room is a shared craft room with me that was once very organized and pretty and a very well shared space. When I got sick I filled the void of my negative feelings with buying crafting items, shopping at thrift stores and yard sales and not getting rid of anything! Needless to say I have become my own worst nightmare…a hoarder!!!

My craft room/kids room is not even usable you can’t even walk through the door to get anything even if I was wanting to work on a project (in which case I currently am, I am needing to finish my costume for comic-con which is coming up on my birthday here in Portland, Oregon) I’m so excited I have never been and I will definitely be doing a post afterward including pictures of our trip. The cast from Dr. Who is going to be there, I can’t wait!!! Anyways sorry I get sidetracked really easily…

I decided I had to start on the garage first because my husband has been wanting that to be done for quite some time now. My best friend Jillybean came over and helped me and within 2 entire days full of work we hauled off two full car loads to Goodwill. I have a handful of crafted items that I have been selling but other than that we have just been purging, purging, purging. I still have a little ways to go in the garage as I need to take another trip to Goodwill and then start on the organization part of it.

Then comes the treacherous boys room/craft room. I can’t remember the last time they were able to sleep in there own room, which makes me feel like a terrible Mom but even when it is clean they down’t like to sleep in there they sleep in the same room as their step-brother so they can all spend time together or they stay up late playing games and crash in the living room recliners. Mine and my husband’s room is over run by my clothing! My closet is in the boys room because we do not have enough space and so he has the closet in our room because he has to go to work in business clothes 5 days a week and I don’t work so I decided to take the closet in the other room. However it seems my wardrobe is overflowing out of every nook, cranny and orphous of our home so that too is a huge task ahead of me. Also because I can’t get into the other room where my closet is none of my clothes that need hung up are getting put away they are just getting stacked “nice & neatly” in corners and where ever I can shove them and make them fit 😉 😉

Then comes the bath and beauty products. Chris took the bathroom apart while I was in Miami and built new cabinets. So when I got home all my bathroom items were all boxed up and I didn’t realize how much crap I had until it was all laid out in front of me in boxes. Wow! Even tonight I couldn’t seep because of insomnia so I went through my fingernail polish stuff and down sized a huge amount, sadly it all still takes up an extra large storage bin! I also need to choose a color and paint our new bathroom cabinets so that after I purge my bathroom items I can start putting things back where they belong.

Like my husband always tells me every time I get discouraged he says “any and all steady forward progress is success” it doesn’t have to be a huge amount of progress just steady forward progress…continue moving in the right direction. I don’t know where I would be without my husband, he is amazing. He is so patient with me on the days I don’t feel good enough to even get any regular house hold chores done let alone anything extra. I get to feeling really discouraged like I’m never going to get out of this rut I’m in, but when I do make progress like on the days that Jill came and helped me and we hauled off two car loads to Goodwill; WOW! That felt amazing!!!! You wouldn’t even know that I have done that if you look at our garage now and didn’t see it before.

We almost need a second storage shed in the back yard for things such as storage totes full of camping items, hunting items, Christmas items…etc…all marked and stacked nicely so they are easy to find but I don’t think that is going to happen sadly. When I start to cut into my craft room I am going to really tear into things and get rid of everything I can, down to the bear bones of what I need to function as an artist and hobby enthusiast.

By then it will be time to hit my wardrobe and that will be another huge thorn in my side but a great relief when it is done… It will be a slow going project. I didn’t become a hoarder overnight and my habits won’t just undo themselves, I have to work on my habits as I work on decluttering the mess I’ve made of our home. I read a lot of great blog posts on decluttering-365 and how to stop hoarding; there are many great bloggers out there with many wonderful tips. When I have completed a couple of sections I will post before and after photos and give you all the best tips that worked for me.

So far the big question I have for myself if I’m having a difficult time saying good bye to an item is “when did I use this last? How often does it get used? Is the value of the item and space the item is taking up worth the amount of use I’m getting out of it? (If that makes any sense, lol)

We live in an older home and yes it is small but I had a dream when I married my husband of making the inside and outside of this home look very shabby chic cottage like. (I know part of the reason I haven’t completed that is because of finances and because what man says yes I want my house shabby chic) This was his house that he bought before we met so that makes things a little more difficult.

Any tips or questions please speak freely and let me know what you think of my blog. Please if you have tips for me in this purging process hit me up don’t be afraid to tell me like it is. As always thank you for your love and support. I look forward to hearing any feedback you might have for me. I will post pictures with my next post as to how I am doing. I wish I would have taken photos of the garage before I started so I could have showed you before and afters of it. I will at least be able to show you the after photos though. Until next time. Smile, be happy and live well.

Christmas 2015

Standard

As you all know I’m addicted to crafting and decorating…however our house is very small. This is the first year in 5 1/2 years that we have gotten a Christmas tree and decorated the house up a bit. I was on a very tight budget so I was very lucky to have my in laws and my bestie Jill donate some decorations for me to have fun with. We went down to our local church and purchased a beautiful little tree for $7. With the ornaments they gave me and a few things purchased from the dollar tree I was able to dress up our tree, make a wreath, decorate the beautiful table that my hubby made for his Grandma (who just passed away, so we inherited it back), I made a partial wreath for my outdoor succulent box that I made this year and decorated our two street lamps that we bought from an estate sale a few years back (I only took a picture of one but you get the gest of it, I’m sure). I hope you enjoy my tid bits of creativity this Christmas! Thank you for all your love and support! Thanks for visiting my blog! Merry Christmas my friends and have a bright and safe New Year!

Vacation to Miami

Standard

Hello everyone from beautiful Oregon! I wanted to share with you some of the details of my trip to Miami to see one of my best friends. My dear friend Carol Ann lived across the street from me for years and over that time we came to be great friends! Last year we took a vacation to Miami together for a couple of weeks, it was so much to fun! This August she moved down there to take care of her 95 year old Mother. It was a difficult goodbye, even knowing that it would be temporary. By November we were already planning a trip for me to visit to help her out with her hand surgery. I flew down November 7th, the day before her birthday. We went out for our favorite drinks and appetizers at Flannagan’s Bar & Grill (bloody marys, tumbleweed onions & blue fin dolphin).

This trip was more of a helping her out and having surgery on my own hand as well, than a vacation, however we still had a blast. The Miami weather is amazing, except for when it rains (torrential down pour is more like it). Between the heat and humidity down there I do not have near as much pain.

We did a lot of shopping but not as much as my last trip as my budget was much tighter this time around. I ended up being down there for a month which was totally worth it, but I really missed my family a lot! On my last weekend there we took a drive to the Keys. Awesome day, (she drives a little Mercedes hard top convertible and the weather was perfect to spend the entire day driving with the top down!!!) I love driving her car down there, it’s such a fun car to drive…not to mention sexy. We spent the day drinking bloody marys on a beach south of Islemorada, stopped off in Key Largo and did some shopping at little tourist shops and outdoor markets on the way down, and ended the day at Postcard Resort (used to be Holiday Resort, and was open to the public for free- they have a salt water pool, jetski rentals, peddle boat rentals, private beaches & tiki bars along with multiple restaurants). They still have all the amenities but are closed to the public. There used to be live bands on the weekends and a DJ during the weeks, it was a major party spot for the locals & tourists alike! I had such a great time! I could move to the Keys, I would be so happy there!

I look and feel healthier down there, being exposed to so much sunshine makes me happier…maybe when the kids are grown up and moved out Chris can start looking for a job down that way. Here are some of the pictures that I took on my trip, all with my cell phone LG G4, I didn’t want to pack my camera when my phone has such a great one!!! The picture of the sunset was in Islemorada, Postcard Resort we snuck in like we were guests. The other pics were random spots along the way and the beach by Islemorada. I hope you enjoy and as always thank you for all your love and support!

It’s been too long…

Standard

I’m sorry I have left you all hanging for so long, but I haven’t dropped off the grid. You will be seeing a few fun posts in the near future. I have been really sick off and on through the summer and then I spent all of November in Miami with one of my amazing friends, Carol Ann. While I was gone sadly we lost two of my husband’s family members to whom we were very close with; his Uncle who unexpectedly passed at 54 years old a month after receiving a diagnosis of leukemia, and his Grandma who has been fighting stage 4 ovarian cancer for two years. Both deaths have been extremely hard in our family, they were within two days of each other and I felt terrible that I wasn’t home to offer support to my husband and my family. They are both a great loss to us and will be missed greatly!

Upon my return I flew home with a bad case of good poisoning and was sick all the way home on my flights. Then 2 days ago I ended up in the ER with stroke like symptoms. I’ve had a mild stroke before; they of course ran labs, did a CT Scan and MRI but did not see signs of a stroke so back to the neurologist I go. The right side of my face is droopy and my right arm is tingling. While I was in Miami I had carpal tunnel and tendon release surgery on my left hand which is doing much better now. Due to my autoimmune disease I am very sensitive to a lot of things and I had a terrible allergic reaction to the steri strips they used on my incisions and I blistered up pretty bad so I’m glad it is healing well now.
