Out on the Water


I love the water! It doesn’t matter what body of water it is as long as I’m close to it. (I happen to be a Pieces) We just so happen to live in a wonderland for me with multiple rivers, two good size lakes, many creeks, mountains, hiking trails, the Cascade Mtn Range all out our back door and we are about a 1 hour 20 minutes to the ocean.

This past week I purchased a hard sit on top kayak that I had been saving up for. I chose the Sun Dolphin Bali 10′ SS in Orange. (THIS IS IN NO WAY AN ENDORSEMENT OR ADVERTISEMENT FOR THIS PRODUCT, COMPANY OR IT’S AFFILIATES. THIS IS BASED ON MY OWN PURCHASE AND OPINION) It was not the one I was originally looking at but all of the local stores were out of the one I wanted and this one was available, it was the closest one to the other one that I wanted and it had good reviews online. So I went and picked it up and I immediately drove it out to the lake and flipped it within the first 15 minutes…I got right back on it and tried some more. This time managing to actually stay on it for my trip to the bend and back. Who knew those things would be so difficult to get back onto? Lol. I absolutely fell in love with the way this kayak handles, turns and glides on the water (it’s even easy to flip back over after you’ve flipped, just not so easy to wrangle yourself back on)

With my body being the way it is I can’t go very far from shore and I can’t paddle very far before I’m done but because my doctor says I should be strengthening my arms, legs and core muscles so that I don’t lose the ability to use them that kayaking is a very good exercise for me to do. That news  is exciting for me to hear and get to follow through on! We already had 2 inflatable kayaks that we would take camping with us but I have always wanted a hard kayak. I won’t ever be able to do it on my own because I can’t load and unload my kayak, nor do I want to be on the water alone. Even though I didn’t make it very far my arms were sure sore the next day and my shoulder was in a lot of pain it locked up on me; but to be able to say I did it, I got out there and I did that…feels so amazing! Then there’s the 2 days in bed because I can’t move after I do anything that pushes my body, not only do I end up in exteme pain all over but I get physically ill from it as well. I’m hoping on more good days as the weather gets better and I think the more I try to condition my body the better it will get. If you don’t remember or if you’re new to my blog and don’t know I was in a wheelchair almost fulltime just 2 years ago, so I’m still conditioning my legs with walking. So many times I have fallen because my legs give out on me or balance issues.

I’m very much looking forward to summer time and being out at the lake during the day and bbq’ing at night! It’s time to say good bye to the rain for a couple months and bring out the sunshine and good moods! I’ve taken note the different attitudes you get from people during different seasons and climates. People in our small town of 9K have been in better moods lately and we’ve been having a lot more sunny days as we’re cruising through Spring. It’s just interesting food for thought.

I’m hoping I can save up a few dollars and do a family day at the beach soon with one of these nice sunny days that we’re going to be having an abundance of before we know it. It has been a while since we have taken the family to the coast and I’m kind of missing it.

I’m still not doing as stringent as I should be with my finances. I’m very disappointed in myself because I know what needs to be done and I was doing really well sticking to my game plan for a while and then I don’t know what happened but I recognize it and am motivated to fix the problem so that’s a good start. As I’ve already started making myself checkin with what I’m spending on I’m also putting notes each time I tranfer money to my account I put a notation of what it’s for so I can see where all my money is going and where I can cut back. I’m just disappointed in myself because I can see where I need to cut back and I didn’t, I am starting from now. I am also sticking to my goal end smoking date of June 1st, which is going to be hard because I’m very much a habitual smoker. (Wish me luck, I know I have to do this for my health, for my husband and for our finances). My health has been about the same. I’ve been living on medications to mask the symptoms because what they’ve tried to date has not worked. I’m on another run of antibiotics, this time Vancomycin and I’m praying they work. I will write another post as to what my last resort option is because it has sensitive information in it that not everyone may want to read.
